Kejetia Market on fire

 The central market, Kejetia, was destroyed by fire, according to news reports pouring out of Kumasi, the Ashanti Region's capital city.


According to GhanaWeb sources, the cause of the fire is unclear, but sources claim the fire began at Kejetia Dubai, where car tires are sold.

According to accounts, the fire broke out this afternoon, March 15, 2023, around 4:30.


Currently, members of the Ghana Fire Service are on the scene to put out the flames and evacuate people from the building's damaged areas.


Parts of the structure are emitting a lot of thick smoke.
According to a report by Joy News, the scene's intense smoke caused a mother and infant to pass out.

To protect her life, a second lady also leaped from the building.
The personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ambulance Service are presently on the scene to assist the inferno victims.

Transport is being made for the wounded to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Wailing while attempting to save as many items as they can, the traders affected by the event.



Some of the impacted business owners who spoke with GhanaWeb's Ashanti Regional Correspondent claimed that the slow response time of the fire department was to blame for the fire's escalation.

As the blaze continues re-igniting in flames minutes after it has subsided, firefighters are having a difficult time putting it out.
Smoke has completely filled the first level of the new Kejetia.
